Once intended to keep the quilt, bedspread, or duvets clean, bed runners were also intended to give color, texture, and style to the bedroom, especially if the top dressing of the bed was a solid color or white. Initially, they were utilized in more opulent hotels to allow the establishment to enhance the décor by simply adding a bed runner. In this approach, the hotel may employ white sheets, which cost less to buy and clean. Despite giving the room a stark appearance, the white blankets, bedspreads, and duvet covers could be cleaned and sanitized in hot water without deteriorating, no matter how many wash cycles they through. The bed runner also offered a sense of elegance.
People started using them in their own bedrooms after discovering them as décor in high-end hotel rooms. By adding these quick and simple decorative accents, you may improve the look of your bedroom. A bed runner is typically found laying side to side at the foot or middle of the bed. However, bed runners can also be positioned lengthwise, from head to foot.

How To Make A Basic Bed Runner
The width of the bed should be measured and noted if you plan to build your own bed runner. Then, determine how far you want it to extend beyond the bed’s edge. While some individuals prefer the runner to extend past the bed frame, others just want it to extend 20 to 26 centimeters. Add three centimeters to the breadth of the bed plus two times the length over the edge of the bed. That is how long your bed runner is. The width should be between 47 and 48 centimeters wide. You can customize that to your decorative preferences. If you have a double bed, the strip you cut needs to be 137 cm long + 52 cm wide plus 3 cm high, for a total length of 192 cm.
Cut two pieces of fabric that are your dimensions. Then cut a piece of fusible interfacing the same size. Iron the interfacing to the wrong side of one of the strips you cut. The wrong side is the side you don’t wish to exhibit. Pin the two pieces together with the right or colorful sides facing. One short side and the two long sides should be pinned.
Using a 1 1/2 cm seam allowance, stitch the two pieces together along the three sides that were pinned. Turn the stitched fabric right side out after removing the pins. The seams should be pressed flat. Pin the open end folded inward by 1 1/2 cm. It’s been slipstitched shut. Flatten with an iron. Topstitch all of the edges by 1/2 cm to reinforce the seams. By adding a second row of decorative topstitching 1-3 cm from the edge, you can also add topstitching. By adding a vibrant border to the edge, you can make several variants. Simply cut strips that are twice as wide as the border you desire, plus a few centimeters. Before sewing the two runner pieces together, sew it to one side of the cloth with the right sides together at the seam line and then at the location that is half the width.
Do the final stages after it has been turned right side out, and then fold the cloth over the runner’s edge. First side should be ironed flat. Iron that side and topstitch it down. For a puffier runner, using batting rather than interfacing and sewing a design on top is another variant.
